GTK does run on windows, but has a pile of dependencies. I wonder
what Firefox uses on win32.

I believe it uses the C Windows API, while it uses Cocoa on Mac and GTK
for everything else. So it's a design very similar to Gnash's GUI
library.

Google Chrome uses WTL (Windows Template Library) and I am given to
use it too, being quite familiar with it. Again, the price to pay is
that there would be some unfree-corporate-greedy-world cousin code,
that works only on Windows, added to a future source distribution.

As long as the library you use is GPLv3-compatible, you can use
whichever one you prefer.
