Hmm. I think that I'm starting to get it working. My solution:
1: comment out the part in the /etc/rc.sysinit script where / is remounted rw 2: create a /var/dev directory 3: copy the /dev/tty[0-9] files to /var/dev 4: In /dev, make symlinks to the tty[0-9] files in /var/dev 5: (hack) Remove the /etc/securetty file, since login refuses to let me login via ttys not explicitly contained underneath /dev. I wonder if login hardcodes this or this is PAM-configurable? There's still some other minor stuff to take care of, but I'm a lot better off than I was before. Regards, --kevin -- Kevin D.
