Hi Everyone
Yesterday at school I was talking to Dave Miller about the LBS. He (nhctc)
wants to put on a demo about networking. His original idea was to set up one
of the classrooms and show how routers and switches fit into the business
environment. I suggested that we (gnhlug) could expand our model to show the
same thing. So it was either we show Linux being networked or he was going
to show Windows doing it. So he has agreed to let us use labs #28 and #30
(~30 more computers) for our show. The only thing is that we can set-up and
test it now in room 29A. Then on Friday, 28APR00, we clone our efforts to
the additional rooms and network them together to complete the model. Sound
Good???
So far we asked for and received:
*Computer Labs 29A, 28, and 30 (~40 computers)
*Large classrooms; 31, 32 and 33 (seats ~30 each)
*Conference room (seats ~50)
*A place to set for caters.
*All the networking equipment we need.
An update to those that are following the demo group progress:
*We will send mail with "[DEMO]" in the subject line.
*Our meetings will be EVERY Wednesday at 7:00pm at NHCTC room 29A. I told
the school about out meeting and invited them to attend if they desired.
*We plan on using OpenMerchant and Appgen for setting up and running our
business (TuxBix).
*We have registered www.tuxbiz.com <http://www.tuxbiz.com> and a web site
is being set up so that we can demonstrate the ordering and tracking TuxBiz
widgets.
*We plan on installing StarOffice and Applix on the commuters so we can show
compatible alternatives to Microsoft Office97 or 2000.
*In addition to all these Linux machines we will have a few WinNT boxes
tossed in so we can show connectivity and compatibility between OSs.
Things we need:
*Get Appgen installed ASAP to start setting it up.
*Continue getting OpenMerchant working.
*A copy of the current release of Applix.
*A few more talented fingers at the keyboards setting things up.
*To complete and start testing our website.
*Business savvy people to help with the rest of our model. There is more to
making a business than making computers talk. I think the more complete our
model is the better the demos will turn out.
*Creative minds to help us think of the things that we may be missing.
We are on a roll and things are happening. Stay tuned for additional
updates or come to out meetings!
Rick
