Linux and its open source rival, BSD, are very difficult to track.  IDC has
included questions
about Linux in operating environment studies worldwide since 1996 and still
don't feel that
we've really understood all of the dynamics of the market.  In fact, we're in
the process of
doing a survey which will include 600-800 Linux users now.
