I have thought about this before. And, I think <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is a
good name. It describes the purpose of the list perfectly.

[ Pardon me while I wax philosophical for a moment... ]

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> has the benefit of not being overly restrictive. In
the past, I had thought we should have <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, to separate the more Linux-focused traffic for those who
only care about Linux. Upon further consideration, though, I have concluded
that is a bad idea. The general idea that we are Linux focused is already
conveyed by our organization. And who only cares about Linux, to the
exclusion of all else?

More importantly, to my mind, is that it can be hard to pigeon-hole
certain topics into "Linux" or "not Linux". Sure, a question about what
model number Fram air filter a 2001 Subaru Forrester takes has nothing to do
with Linux. But what about politics that are likely to affect the Linux
community? We get those a lot, and I think they are on-topic, but they have
no explicit Linux content. What about a discussion about digital cameras
that work with Linux, as Paul recently floated (and even called "off
topic"). Personally, I think that discussion was perfectly appropriate for
our group.

In short, GNHLUG is a Linux User Group. It is not a Linux Only User
Group. We should try to benefit the group, not be the topic police.

Besides, if enough people find a topic to be detrimental, I am sure we
will hear about it. :-)

[ Back to reality now. ]

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is pretty much a no-brainer. As has been suggested
in the past, it would be nice if we could figure out some way to have the
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> list be moderated, to keep spam (deliberate and
accidental) off of said list. However, I think we can defer that for now.
