My personal and highly inflammatory opinion on this is that RMS can go
fsck himself. (I suspect he suffers from serious filesystem corruption in
any event.) Yes, RMS has done a lot for the community, and yes the GNU
project is very valuable, and yes he is brilliant man. None of that means
any of us should bow down to his egomania and delusions. I'm all for giving
GNU all the credit they deserve, and more, but changing the name of the
group because RMS thinks we should is just, well, *wrong*.

The name of the group is GNHLUG. We never said we don't use other things
too, and it is generally understood that anything having to do with Free
Software and/or Unix-derivatives is what we are here for. Heck, I think
it's been demonstrated that just about anything that has ever been near a
computer is of interest to the group. If RMS is not willing to accept that,
that is his problem.

The fact that every presentation RMS has given for the past two years has
been nothing but a rant on why we should say "GNU Linux" instead of "Linux"
and "Free Software" instead of "Open Source" makes me think we don't want to
hear him speak, either. We've already had that flamewar. Anything that
could be said on the matter, has. Several times.

That being said, I speak only for myself, and I really don't give two
shits what RMS does or where he goes. I am quite happy to simply skip any
meeting he is speaking at. The only thing I am strictly against is changing
the name of the group to placate anyone.

And, in other circumstances, I would be willing to accept it in similar
fashion. But this is RMS. He will hold us to that name, and make a very
big deal about anyone not using that name. In short, he will not be willing
to accept it on anything but completely serious and draconian terms.
