Looks good. I've tweaked it a bit more. Mainly, I dropped the grid

I agree, reluctantly. I think it' s handy to have reference to what
has gone before.
However, I agree about the clutter issue. In his great books, Tufte
refers to data density as a major issue in communications. We've got
about a square yard of gratuitous colors and numbers to communicate 5
rows of Date-WhichLuG-Speaker-Topic, not a great use of space. I'm
not saying we need to pack it all in tight - white space serves a
very useful purpose of readability, guidance and positioning - but we
can do better than the default calendar layout. I'd like to work it a
little more to see if we can raise the information:area ratio and
communicate the important information better.
Ok, I give up! The calendar format does not seem to impart the same
amount of valuable information as the list format. I think the color
issue can be addressed by not coloring the calendar or using VERY muted
pastels, but there aren't meeting descriptions in the calendar and it
does seem to involve a small amount of information taking up a lot of
space. For those of us that handle dates better in a calendar grid,
well just have to provide our own. Thanks to everyone who tried to make
it work.
