A few years back I had good luck in using the DBI interface along with
the Sybase libraries to get direct access to MS SQL Server from a
Digital UNIX box. SQL Server is actually based on Sybase code. It may
have diverged enough now from the Sybase code that this trick no longer
works, I have no idea. At any rate, the performance was much much
better than that of an ODBC connection.
