I hardly think this is deception. Generating support calls is not in any
companies best interest. Let's not look for evil just because the company
is on top. We wouldn't want people talking about Linus the way they talk
about Bill when he's on top in a few years...;+}

What amazes me is how the computer trade press hasn't said anything about
the name game.
I mean, presently, since Win95, the numbered versions were DOS-based.
Lettered versions -- i.e. NT -- were NT kernel-based.
With 2000, Microsoft did a 180 degree turn -- and no one is saying
anything. Win2K is NT-based, and the forthcoming WinME is DOS-based.
There are going to be *millions* of consumers who are going to go out and
buy Win2000 thinking, logically, that it's an upgrade for Win98. Those
people are going to find that their device drivers don't work, and that
their 5-year old's favorite game doesn't work. When they complain, they'll
be told, "just wait until this summer and upgrade WindowsME, that'll fix
things!"
It just amazes me that more isn't said of this deception.
