Thanks for the information, Kevin.  I wish I had known the unpublished
primary DNS when my domain registrar insisted I had to register my primary
name server with InterNIC (for an extra $25, of course...)

Unless I'm missing something, this still won't allow Karl to provide the
primary DNS unless he can obtain a static IP address from Media One.

Is M1 using Road Runner up there?  If so, good luck getting them to bend
even a little.  I've talked to the RR people down here in NC several times
regarding similar issue and they really don't seem to care.  I've seen
references to a future business class service offered by RR.  I haven't been
able to obtain details regarding the services provided or pricing, but
there's at least some hope it will provide static IP addresses - perhaps
even more than one! :)
