Ordinarily I would expect that would fix it, but I noticed one system is
SCSI and the other is IDE.  Did you swap the drives with the motherboards?
IOW did the drives end up in the machine with the same motherboard they
were attached to originally?

My first guess is that you don't have SCSI enabled in the first kernel,
and don't have IDE enabled on the second kernel.
