Are you absolutely sure you want this? I didn't have the impression about all
these irc things that they are so well-tested against security. Well, I can't
help more, but just a suggestion to leave the firewall alone.
Well, maybe you could go to a java talk-thing. When you set up a server, every
client can connect to it, and the server performs some irc kind of service. I
don't know if there is an existing gpl code for it because what I saw was an app
of a guy I know, but it's not too hard to implement it yourself. And then
you can gpl'ize it:-).
