I am not running ftp from an X session or a terminal under X I am running from a console command line, dir or ls or any other version of ls don't work, and whenever I save the output to a file ( either ls | /save/filename or ls > /save/filename) I get an empty file I guess i am more concerned as to why the file is empty??? I have ftp` ed into a site from the linux command line and have issued the ls command, but I have 3 to 4 screens full of files, needless to say I can't read them as they go by, and I can't pipe it to more or less and the commands I issue to save it`s output to a file don't work. How can I read the file listing on the remote machine. thanks chris PS I already ran the man page and the books I have and this issue is NOT addressed ********************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the following text in the *body* (*not* the subject line) of the letter: unsubscribe gnhlug **********************************************************
