All,
I found this to be quite amusing, so I figured that I would share it with
you.... Several weeks ago, I asked the list about IDE CD-RW's and their
Linux compatibility. The response that I got was basically: "It should
work". So, I finally got the burner this week. I put it into my system and
fired it up. The system that I put the burner in is a Dual boot Linux/Win98
with an AMD K62-300MHz and 192MB of ram. So I downloaded cdrecord and
xcdroast and set them up. It took a little tweaking of the modules, but I
finally got it to work. I can burn from the HD to CD and from CD TO CD.
It's great. Now for the funny part. I installed the software that it came
with under Windoze, which is the Adaptec EasyCD package. I can burn from HD
to CD, but every time I burn from CD to CD, the entire machine freezes up
and I have to shut it down! Looks like they need a Windoze-Compatibility
list ;-)
