A couple of months ago I bought a D-Link DSH-5 5-port
10/100 hub-with-switch. It turns out to have been a
sub-optimal choice; the collision rate is phenomenal
(not surprising), and occasionally causes Samba copies
between my W95 box (10Mbit) and my Linux boxes (10 and 100Mbit)
to fail. It's also noisy; it sounds like a Harrier taking
off in the bathroom.
So another option appears to be a Netgear 5-port 10/100
true switch. Before I buy, though, I'd like to hear some
remarks about it.. like: is the bloody thing quiet, or will
running it make my neighbours think I'm expecting company
and hoovering for hours?
Any feedback appreciated.. ta!
