Check the output of dmesg(8) to make sure the ethernet card driver is
initializing properly, picking the right IRQ, media type, etc.
Check the output of ifconfig(8) to make sure the ethernet interface is up
and configured properly.
Check the output of route(8) and make sure the proper routes exist, and do
not conflict.
Check the output netstat(8) ("netstat -ap" works well) for any clues.
You might want to try upgrading to a newer release of Red Hat, or at the
very least, upgrading your kernel.
If it still doesn't work, post the output of the above commands some place,
and we can take a look.
