Yeah, it's a drag to have to keep userids and passwords in sync on
multiple systems.

This is an area I'm pretty ignorant of, but schemes I've heard
of include:

- Kerberos. IBM and probably other Unix vendors seem to like this, 
  but it's always seemed to me to require a lot of up-front setup 
  and commitment.

- Windows NT domain login. (Isn't this using some flavor of Kerberos
  these days?) 

- Radius servers.

- LDAP.

Taking a page from Micro$ofts play book, it would make sense for Linux
to be able to participate fully in NT domains, so you could start 
sneaking in Linux machines seamlessly, replacing NT file and print
servers with Samba, for instance. So I do hope the Justice Department
forces MS to reveal ALL of the NT domain server protocols...
