They do get paid for their work. Oh, you mean the ability to do
something once and get huge wads of money forever because someone else
is using the idea to solve THEIR problem? Well, I know Andrew
Trigdell of SAMBA has set it up so you can e-mail pizzas to him (only
buy from local, no matter transport yet, ;-(), there's nothing
preventing you from sending money to any of these folks. Again, most
of them do it because it scratches an itch they have, not with the
goal of making gobs of money forever. I also notice that Linux, Alan
Cox, Andrew Trigdell, Jeremy Allison, maddog, etc, are not exactly
hurting in the money department.

As a capitalist myself, I have problems with people getting tons of
money for nothing. Read the constitution, there is no guarantee of
money forever (originally, patents & copywrite were only good for 14
years) Limited monopoly, in exchange for putting it in the public
domain. In fact, according to the constitution, the ONLY reason for
patent & copywrite is to "advance the progress in the useful arts &
sciences," NOT to provide a living to anyone. If you want to continue
to excel, continue to work.
