Larry Wall is not doing too shabby either.  He was offered pre-IPO stock in 
Yahoo (I think) as a thank you for having written Perl.

Oh, just so you know, I do my part to financially support OpenSource software 
by using my LinuxFund Credit Card :)  1% of all purchases goes towards free 
software projects !  It's got a great picture of Tux on it too :)
