Tom: after you untar the PHP3 tarball, read the file on installing PHP3 using Red Hat RPMs. It is easy and it works. No need to go through all that other stuff like compiling Apache again from source. FWIW, RH 6.2 provides a very complete set of PHP3 modules, but only for Postgres database. I suggest you work with Postgres a bit before concluding you want to use MySQL.
