Sorry for making the Subject sound more interesting than my actual question...
After avoiding it for many years, my wife and I have decided to get a
cellular phone.
In addition to the basic cellular phone services, I want to also allow
the laptop to use the phone to establish an internet connection thru
the modem under Linux. Even at 9600 baud this would be neat and even
perhaps useful! (an oddball application that comes to mind is to use
Yahoo while driving to find the next McDonalds so the kids can get
their blessed happy meals :-)
Anyway, does anyone out there have suggestions for a cell phone service
provider (we live near Manchester) and brand of cell phone that would
allow me to do this? (One complication is the laptop doesn't have a
serial port, just a PCMCIA modem, do any cell phones allow direct RJ11
connections a modem?)
