I lost the message that flamed Larry Cook for posting the job openings at Sybase in Concord, so I don't remember who sent it. Just as well... I have apologized to Larry offline and attempted to explain the situation. IMNSHO, we need to work with other *IX interests in the state. There is considerable synergy between us, as witnessed by the participation of several major UNIX vendors on this list and in the group activities. Many of the job skills that Larry is apparently looking for are virtually interchangeable with those intrinsic in Linux. Just because his particular company's product isn't ported to Linux yet doesn't mean that they might not be convinced to do so in the future. I believe that Oracle's behaviour is a clear example of this, and one of our own members, Rich Soule, is now an Oracle rep out on the West Coast after having gone to Oracle after graduating from UNH - his involvement with Linux was a big part of that. No, we don't want the list inundated with job reqs by the dozens, particularly from out of state headhunters spamming us. But, Larry is representing a LOCAL office of a major company that is looking for talent. We need all the friends we can get, and the only customers you can count are the ones who actually buy from you - you don't know the ones you lost out on because of turn-offs like this. It's a small world - I was amazed at how many DEC alumni that I actually know, who showed up at Maddog's birthday party, and I had to reflect that over the years, I've crossed paths with a lot of interesting people who have gone on to careers in a wide variety of other companies. We've come a long way with GNHLUG, but we have a ways to go. Flaming friends is not the Linux way - it's what they do in Redmond, not here.
