Starting yesterday afternoon, I've been having a problem with X windows
not starting. The onset coincided with some flakiness on the hard
drive, that doesn't seem to be continuing but now I've got the pick up
the pieces and put Humpty back together again.
What's happening is that startx exits after the following messages:
_FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
failed to set default font path 'unix/:-1'
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
fwiw, errno 111 is connection refused.
I'm not especially knowledgeable about XFree86, so any help will be
gratefully appreciated!
