yeah, I think it's about time we kill this thread. I'm more than done with it.
What my original intent was to point out that Red Hat needs to stop enabling
everything by default. Linux is one of the hottest buzzwords nowadays, which
means more and more people are installing it. Nine out of ten newbies will
install Red Hat, because of it's easy installtion procedure. Even if Red Hat
disables everything in inetd.conf, that would be a start. I know if I were a
linux newbie, I would rather learn how to turn a service on by myself, instead
of being turned off to linux by being rooted, and having my whole hard disk
wiped.
A staggering amount of people think Linux == Red Hat. So if they have a bad
experience (say they got rooted), they would go around to all their friends,
co-workers, and the such, and tell them all how much Linux sucks, how they
got hacked within 5 minutes of being online, etc.
Let's just calm this thread down a little bit, and stick to some constructive
aspects of system security.
