Remember, they're setting up a sandbox not a production net, and it's not connected to
the real world. A set of 486s would seem great for toys, could run sniffs and
practice sys admin chores and such easily. I'm not sure they'd be completely useless
for program development, as long as you don't mind taking a break for long compiles
and such. Add one decent server (like my own 486 :-) and you could have a pretty
useful playground, seems to me.

I agree that sys admins are primarily responsible. So is the management that allowed
them to encounter such problems. BTW, naming names in a public forum seems to me a
bit intrusive, regardless of the merits or responsibility of the individuals named.
