Are you running X or are you straight on the console?
Are you using minicom with a modem?
Or are you using minicom with the serial ports?
(if so, are you certain that your baud rate is correct? -- this is an
extremely common problem. How about bits and parity as well?)
Does CTRL-a z q successfully quit this program?
I use minicom all the time; it works great for me.
