Easier is to use the apache syntax to have their domains within their home 
directory. When you set up the virtual servers, you give it a root of a tree.  
Make certain it's in the user's home directory, wherever you set up the jailed 
ftp access.  You can reverse symlink (/www/domain.com -> ~usera/domain.com) if 
you want to use /www/domain.com for backups, etc.
