It was widely reported this morning - and I heard a blurb on the news
on WZID(FM) - that apparently they were able to secure some last-minute
funding from an unnamed source that will permit them to stay in business.
I also read in some of the online news (e.g., AP, Reuters, et al. on
Yahoo's headlines) that the New Hampshire PUC was rather taken aback
by Vitts' first declaration (of shutting down by the end of February),
inasmuch as Vitts hadn't given the NHPUC the 60 day notice as required
by law for common carriers.
Apparently, Vitts is trying to convince their current customers to stop
looking into switching to another vendor and trying to scrape up new
customers as well. Given the sad state of xDSL in New Hampshire thanks
to Veridont's incompetency, this will be a daunting task, IMNSHO.
However, if they're able to keep things going, perhaps Vitts will be
able to "merge" with (or be purchased by) a more viable company with
deep enough pockets.
