Yup, Patrick SomebodyOrOther (Volkerding?) introduced
Slackware at least a year after I first installed the
SLS distribution from a handful of 5.24" floppies.  I
probably still have them lying around somewhere - maybe
I should angle for an appearance on Antiques Roadshow...

Sorry to hear about the frustrations with Debian - I've
been using Debian (Potato at home, Woody at work) and
I'm satisfied, though I don't mess with any stuff like
KDE, so if that's a Debian weakness I wouldn't have run
into it.  It's true that apt-get does occasionally
force me to shout some bad words, but I've ultimately
managed to get what I need installed and the systems
seem quite stable.
