Today, Ken D'Ambrosio gleaned this insight:

That also has improved considerably. It's not as nice as the E pager,
but it does show you little representations of your windows that almost
look like the app, except they're in B&W (greyscale).

Also, you can now drag windows around in it. That was the primary reason
I was originally using E, and when Gnome's pager improved I thought I'd
try sawfish.

I really liked FVWM's pager, and its ability to start up applications on
particular desktops. I like E's session management, which does some of
those things, but it's still a bit buggy, and their pager does
rock! That's why I'm back to it (I actually use both pagers, because I
tend to cover mine up with applications on some desktops... I USE my
screen real estate).

If Sawfish has improved the session management, I'll probably switch back.
The Gnome pager isn't quite as nice as the E pager, but it's good enough
(now).

You need to get Helix Gnome (now Ximian -- http://www.ximian.org/ ). It
will update a whole bunch of stuff, including the gnome pager, and make it
all nice and good.
