Seen during boot by what, the BIOS or the kernel?

Is it an ATAPI drive or is it an older unit that uses proprietary drivers
like the old Colorado Memory Systems Tape Units?

Does it connect to the 40 Pin IDE ports or to the Floppy Connector (don't
recall if floppy is technically an "IDE" port or not, but it's part of most
IDE chipsets.)

Have you checked Debian's site? Maybe there is a "new" device designation
for these? Similar to what the serial ports underwent a while back
(/dev/cuaX: -> /dev/ttySX:)

Not doing either one, but noone else seemed to be stepping up, so I thought
I'd at least respond :o)
