Note: even the ones that are too old can be upgraded with an Altera EPLD
that HP will gladly charge you too much for; it plugs right into the
socket on the card (both internal and external Jet Direct cards).
Leastwise, that was how I upgraded all my non-compliant ones back in '95
or so. Also, the non-compliant ones still speak "Jet Direct" protocols,
and, I *believe*, will be able to be accessed via CUPS at port 9100.
