Every PPP link I've ever seen has used LCP (Link Control Protocol) messages
to set the IP configuration, and not DHCP. I'm not even sure you *can* use
DHCP over a PPP link. I think you may be barking up the wrong tree. Try
turning on the "debug" option of pppd and looking at the system logs.
