Hello all! As some of you may know, and others (like Rob ;) may not, the "Hosstraders Hamfest" was held this past Friday and Saturday. As has become somewhat of a tradition, GNHLUG had a presence there to spread the word about Linux in general and GNHLUG in particular. While trying to remain modest, I would like to think that this was the best Hosstraders for GNHLUG yet! This was the first year that GNHLUG has actually had *running* Linux radio software present, along with someone who knew how to use it! Ed Lawson (K1VP) brought a Linux PC, complete with software, and a working radio setup. He was demo'ing some satellite and location tracking, packet radio, and PSK software for Linux. The PSK software in particular was very impressive to me: It was visually interesting, and I heard/saw quite a few transmissions from all around the world -- and I'm not even a ham! If I may be so bold, I would like to thank Ed on behalf of all of GNHLUG for doing a great job and making our exhibit far more successful than it would have been otherwise! Thanks, Ed! I would also like to express thanks to Jon "maddog" Hall of Linux International, for sponsoring the GNHLUG tables, as well as finding the time in his legendarily busy schedule to be present at the show. Hosstraders would not be the same without maddog, for the exhibitors or the attendees. On a more pragmatic note, GNHLUG was fairly successfully in reducing our inventory of CDs and T-Shirts. Several shirts were sold (not bad, considering most people at Hosstraders don't know GNHLUG from the BSA), and quite a few of our locally recorded Linux distribution CDs. We also gave away literally hundreds of TurboLinux Workstation and Server CD-ROMs. Freebies are always popular at Hosstraders, and these proved no exception. Hopefully there will be some new Linux users joining our ranks in the coming weeks! Thanks again to everyone who helped out or stopped by. I look forward to seeing you all again in the fall! ;-) -- Ben Scott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | The opinions expressed in this message are those of the author and do not | | necessarily represent the views or policy of any other person, entity or | | organization.
