There may be information @:
  The SourceForge printing Foundry:  http://sourceforge.net/foundry/printing
  or http://linuxprinting.org which has a database of printer information.

If you can get a PPD (Postscript Printer Definition) file,
it contains information on the features each printer supports.
In PostScript, of course. It might have to be specific to the 970CSE
in order to describe the duplex commands.
There is also a database of PJL commands, which many printers use.

linuxprinting.org seems to be down at the moment.
