For whoever really wanted it, from the HP PCL-6 manual:
The simplex/duplex selection command is <ESC>&l#S
where the "<ESC>" is the escape character, the thing that looks
like a one is the lower case version of L (case is important),
the S is upper case, and you replace the # with the digits 0, 1,
or 2, for simplex, duplex with long edge binding, and duplex
with short edge binding respectively. (The difference between
long and short edge binding is whether or not (not necessarily
respectively) it rotates the printing on the "other" side by
180 degrees (around the normal to the page).)
There is also the "duplex page side selection command,
<ESC>&a#G which gets inserted where you want a page break, since
it "causes a form feed" and possibly skips a side to get to
(for the specified values of #) 1 - the next "front" (whatever
that means) side, 2 - the next "back" side, or 0 - the next
side (sounds like it's the same as form-feed, probably just
included for completeness).
