  Ah ha!  That gives you *Debian*'s version of cpio.  Not the GNU tarball,
but something modified.  Extensively, as it turns out (thanks again for
sending me that source).  For the better, I suspect.  I notice that both GNU
tar and GNU cpio seem to fall into the "unmaintained" category.  :-(
