Prior to getting my cable modem from AT&T last Saturday, I had all of my
machines, including an airport base station, connected to a hub that was
plugged into my ISDN modem. Each machine had a fixed IP address,
including the Airport wireless base station.

My wife uses a mac powerbook with a wireless card. the ip address of the
mac powerbook is assigned dynamically by the DHCP server built-in to the
airport base station.

she has an account on my linux box where my DNS and mail server are
running so for her mail. She uses a mail client on the laptop pointed to
the linux box so she can read and send email.

Last Saturday, I got a cable modem from AT&T. I have connected the
wireless base station ONLY to the cable modem. airport gets it's IP
address dynamically from the dhcp server builtin to the cable modem. My
wife's laptop now gets IT'S IP address dynamically from the wireless base
station.

As a result, she can no longer send mail through the smtp server on my
network because of relaying issues and she can't PICKUP her email from the
pop server on my network (smtp/pop3 both running on the linux box where my
DNS and her account live) for reasons that are beyond my comprehension.

Can anyone direct me on helping to get my wife's mail working again?...

For now, I'm having her log into webmin via the browser and read and write
her email there, but that's definitely sub-optimal!

TIA!

J.
