Hi, all. Just some stuff I thought I'd share, as I don't recall seeing any mention of it. I've been using (or attempting to use) Evolution, on and off, for just over a year now. A year ago, you were lucky if it got past the splash screen. Now? It's gotten good.
Granted, the GUI-hating contingent really won't have much use for it, but I have to give credit where credit is due: while it may appear to be an Outlook look-alike, it is (IMHO) substantially superior: folders are stored in ASCII (alleluia), V-folders are really, really cool (they're dynamic, virtual folders the contents of which are based on filters -- but, unlike traditional folders, they don't remove stuff *from* other folders. Think of the messages in a V-folder as soft links to other messages, if you will), etc. It's reasonably stable (I've only had it crash three or four times, and then only the compoment, not the application -- which still exited gracefully), and so forth. There are some features I'd still like to see, but it *IS* a 1.0 release. Bottom line: if you're looking for a really nifty GUI-based contact list/e-mail/calendar client, I'd definitely recommend a glance at Evolution. I'm just amazed at how much I'm enjoying using it. I may not like Miguel's attitude sometimes, but I do like his software. (Note that resolving all of Evolution's dependencies for install was a bit of a pain on a 7.2 box; this probably wouldn't hold true if Ximian had been installed.) $.02 -Ken ***************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the text 'unsubscribe gnhlug' in the message body. *****************************************************************
