Hi, I do not often "push" organizations that I find, but I think this one is unique enough that it is worth mentioning.
Kite, Inc. is a non-profit that is trying to bridge the Digital Divide in Third World countries by using donated computers and Open Source software. Where Kite differs from other groups that I have seen is in their acknowledgment that these donations also need to have training and documentation go along with it, and their website is one that points off to lots of documentation for Linux. In addition, they try to find local (to the receiving site) Linux people who can help the site come on board with Open Source solutions. The recipients of these "packages" are finding out that you DON'T need Microsoft Office to make a nice document, and you DON'T need Microsoft Excel to handle a spreadsheet.....that other products (and Open Source) work fine. I encourage you all to go to www.kiteinc.org to see that they are up to. Here is a local organization that could use some body help from time to time, and a place to donate unused computer parts. md ********************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the following text in the *body* (*not* the subject line) of the letter: unsubscribe gnhlug-announce ********************************************************** ***************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the text 'unsubscribe gnhlug' in the message body. *****************************************************************
