Adaptec has definitely gone down hill.  We've been using TekRam and 
QLogic cards here with great success.  Adaptec has had a lot of 
problems, especially with Linux drivers.  There was one person 
maintaining his own drivers for linux, then Adaptec came along and 
said, "Hey, we'll take this over from you, we'd really like to 
maintain our own drivers for Linux!"  then they went no where with 
them for quite some time.

Ironically, if you have any HP related equipment, especially tape 
drives, they *WILL NOT* work with anything *but* Adaptec :(  So much 
for SCSI being an open standard. HP has built their tape drive units 
to explicitly work with only Adaptec cards!
