If it noise and then some of the magic smoke came out of the back then
it's very likely that the tube is okay.
More likely is that the power supply crapped out in dramatic fashion.
Or possibly the horizontal sweep section...
Monitors are typically different than TV's. Monitors usually have much
better power supplies than most TV's for instance. They tend to be better
isolated and have better regulation. Multi-sync monitors will run the B+
voltage up or down depending on sweep frequency; most TV's run at a fixed
frequency making the power supplies simpler... Anyways they're different
beasts and a TV shop might or might not want to repair it.
You will spend at least $100 to get it fixed unless the tech. gets
lucky and just has to replace what obviously blew up. Sometimes parts
just die like that. Other times the big transistors go because something
else shorted out (e.g. horizontal out transistor) and the power supply
wasn't designed to handle a shorted B+ line gracefully. If the tech
has to go hunting for shorted stuff downstream of the power supply then
it'll cost $100 or more.
My speculation is based on my past life as a TV tech. and also having had
my fingers inside various monitors over the years.
