Here's the update on how this all went- I received an enormous amount of help both on and off the list and got to the point where I at least knew exactly what I needed. There was nothing I could do without knowing the SMDR format. Sadly, the people who handed out the problem could not provide this information which was frustrating as hell to put it mildly.
