I see. So Congress is now in the business of legislating consumer demand. From a strictly economic point of view it is extremely unlikely that the outcome (consumer response) is what they are hoping for. Is this really what we pay our reps so much money to do all day?
The least expensive HDTV set I can find (crutchfield.com) is $1600. This is $1000 more than an equivalent (32") traditional set. I could imagine an argument that says the price discrepancy keeps people from switching over. If promotion of HDTV is really the goal, why not a government subsidy on HDTV sets? Or perhaps a $1000 tax credit if you purchase a HDTV? Same goes for "broadband." Why not a government subsidized T1 line for every home? Why stop with a T1? I mean, this is of utmost importance, right? -Mike- --- "Kenneth E.
