well, i use nmh at work, not exmh, but i assume theyre similar?
anyway, i found the following

$ man /usr/local/nmh/man/man1/mhl.1
[snip]
       A line of the form:

           ignores=component,...

       specifies a list of components which are never output.
[snip]

and gives an example line:

        ignores=msgid,message-id,received,content-type, \
content-transfer-encoding,content-id

( \ and newline added by me, and things prolly wouldnt work if you really 
had that in there..)
thus, to get rid of such garbage, you'd add 'X-face' to that list of
'ignores=', if i follow things correctly.
