If you have a spare partition or a virtual machine you can install
ubuntu 6.06 stable (with Gnome 2.14) and then dist-upgrade to the 'Edgy
Eft' development release which has gnome 2.15.x in it. It is of course
not recommended for daily use and there will be constant updates to it
(large daily downloads).

As Calum says, unless you enjoy the unstable bleeding edge, then 2.14 is
probably your best choice.
