Hosting is most likely preferrable, unless you want to introduce yourself to a maintenance and synchronization nightmare. If you are not interested in switching CVS repository, then you probably want to use a different translation project, such as the Translation Project (http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/contrib/po/HTML/), which does not require a special CVS to be used.
