I think this problem was originally misdiagnosed and has nothing to do with
locale installation and editing /etc/sysconfig/i18n also nothing to do with
anything.
$ ssh planet.gnome.org
[otay...@window ~]$ LC_ALL=pt_BR.UTF-8 date
Ter Abr 6 15:25:31 UTC 2010
