Hi,
Well, imho, the main problem with the existing "Recent Documents" stuff is that
they treat everything as "Documents". Dictionaries clearly mention what a
"Document" is. Its better to replace "Recent Documents" with "Recent Items" or
"Recent Files" and then allocating dedicated tabs to different file types like
Docs, Multimedia etc.,
This would really really alleviate the problem to some extent. It will
be even better to have separate tabs for custom file type extensions.
But a "Recent Documents" list is definitely better than applications based
menus.
I think this gnome-shell module has already one-uped kde4 way of doing things.
Aah! Love at fisrt sight.
Thank you.

I agree with you that a recent files list as it exists today is far
from ideal. I'm hoping to replace it with something better as soon as
we can. Recent files is just one possible approach to what I've been
referring to as the finding and reminding problem. Places are too
essentially.
Good to have people thinking creatively about this problem.
Jon
