Maybe I'm wrong, but I though that Canonical would eventually adopt gnome-shell for Ubuntu... (please, correct me if I'm wrong). I was wondering the change of position was a decision taken bearing in mind that. But you're right, this is not an Ubuntu forum.
I'm quite new in linux world, now using Ubuntu 9.10, and I wasn't taking into account that gnome-shell could be run with many other distributions... sorry about that and thanks for the answers!
